The AOFAQ Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) replaces PTLLS; the Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (levels 3 and 4). 

The new qualification consists of 3 mandatory units and includes an exciting curriculum to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to prepare learners to start or enhance their teaching careers.

Ideal for a wide range of learners including people entering teaching, training and assessing. It also meets the requirements for training and assessing first aid qualifications as specified by Skills for Health and the HSE.

The AoFAQ Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) has been designed to provide an introduction to teaching for individuals who currently or would like to work within FE Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities.  

It further meets the requirements for training and assessing first aid qualifications as specified by Skills for Health and the HSE.

2.2 Explain why it is important to select teaching and learning approaches, resources and assessment methods to meet individual learner needs.
2.3 Explain ways to engage and motivate learners.
2.4 Summarise ways to establish ground rules with learners.

3. Be able to plan inclusive teaching and learning.

3.1 Devise an inclusive teaching and learning plan.
3.2 Justify own selection of teaching and learning approaches, resources and assessment methods in relation to meeting individual learner needs.

  - 1x Teacher assessed micro teaching session of a minimum duration of 20 minutes

Internal Quality Assurers must: 

Meet the criteria of the trainer as listed.

  • Have working knowledge of the requirements of the qualification they are quality assuring at the time any assessment is taking place 
  • Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the role of assessors 
  • Visit and observe assessments and carry out other related internal quality assurance 

Note: It is understood that not all IQAs will be qualified initially, and that sufficient time should be considered to achieve these qualifications. During this time centres should ensure that IQAs are following the principles set out in the current Learning and Development NOS 11 Internally Monitor and Maintain the Quality of Assessment. This could be evidenced by holding a qualification such as:

  • SQA Accredited Learning and Development Unit 11 Internally Monitor and Maintain the Quality of Workplace Assessment
  • RQF Qualifications based on the Learning and Development NOS 11 Internally Monitor and Maintain the Quality of Assessment
